Wheatley Weirdness

In my Science Fiction Secrets book I discuss the UFO writings of acclaimed author Dennis Wheatley. Now, over at his regular Room 101 column at Binnall of America, Richard Thomas delves into other aspects of Wheatley's life and writings - and much more of a secret, conspiratorial nature, too.

Here's the link.

Sci-Fi Secrets in "Paranormal"

The new issue of Britain's Paranormal Magazine includes an article from me on my Science Fiction Secrets book, and which summarizes some of the stranger stories as related in the book: such as those relating to government conspiracies and The Andromeda Strain; and Bernard Newman and his novel, The Flying Saucer. Or was it actually just a novel? Rather, could it have been inspired by a darker truth to which Newman was secretly made privy by official sources...?

Micah Hanks Reviews SFS

Good friend Micah Hanks - of The Gralien Report - has just reviewed my Science Fiction Secrets book.

In his review, Micah says: "I have to start by saying how immensely I enjoyed this book. Having skipped out of town for a 'last ditch' retreat to the Isle of Palms off the coast of sunny South Carolina, I enjoyed this book in between jogs on the beach and the occasional swim. Cuba Libre’ and cigar in hand, I lounged by the pool under a palm tree as I enjoyed this page-turner; and let me be frank, there’s no better way to describe this book. Nick Redfern’s Science Fiction Secrets: From Government Files and the Paranormal is one of my favorite new offerings from Britain’s finest Gonzo journalist of paranormalia."

And here's the rest of Micah's review...

Science Fiction Secrets at MUFON

On Tuesday night, I gave an illustrated lecture on my Science Fiction Secrets book to the San Antonio, Texas-based chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). I spoke for about an hour or so (on such issues as the Reagan-Spielberg-E.T. controversy; the strange story of Mikel Conrad and his film The Flying Saucer; the FBI's file on Philip K. Dick; Stalin's Ape-Men; and much more); after which there followed a lively question-and-answer session that ran for about 45-minutes.

The SA MUFON group is comprised of a good bunch of people, and they have some interesting speakers at their monthly meetings. And it was very good to see legendary MUFON figure Walt Andrus in attendance, too.

Thanks to Julie and John for getting me down there to speak again!

SFS on Jeff Rense Show

Author Brad Steiger will be interviewing me this coming Friday night, when he will be hosting the Jeff Rense show. We'll be discussing my Science Fiction Secrets book. It should begin around 10.30 p.m., so keep a look out for updates!

The FBI and Philip K. Dick

...And, as a follow-on from my last post on Philip K. Dick, here's an extract from one of the various letters (reproduced in my Science Fiction Secrets book) that Dick sent to the FBI that outlined his strange conspiracy theories...

Click on the thumb-nail image for a much larger version of the letter...

The Jet-Propelled Couch

MetaFilter has an interesting thread going on right now on the weird story of Kirk Allen - who combined science-fiction and high-level secrecy in a fashion that was surely truly unique to him.

You can find more about Kirk Allen, his science-fiction links, as well as his connections to government cover-ups and secrecy in my Science Fiction Secrets book.

Philip K. Dick - Tour Today

Good friend Greg Bishop has the following to say about Philip K. Dick at UFOMystic; the blog we run together:

"C’mon, you don’t have a job. You don’t have anything to do Monday afternoon. You live in California, where mystic science fiction writer Philip K. Dick lived most of his adult life, specifically in Fullerton, where my friend (and co-founder of The Excluded Middle magazine) Robert Larson grew up.

"Robert will be leading a tour of his hometown, where he has painstakingly located many sites that Dick mentioned in his novels, including the apartment where the 'pink beam' of a Vast Active Living Intelligence System (or VALIS for short) allegedly struck Dick on February 3, 1974, changing his life forever.

"Dick did not take his strange experiences literally, at least not in the way that caused belief in one interpretation and stopped his personal evolution. In this way, he was much like psychologist Carl Jung, who was one of his inspirations. Coincidentally, Jung’s intensely personal journal known as the 'Red Book' will be published this fall."

Greg concludes: "Robert will meet Phil Dick seekers at the corner of East Chapman Avenue and North State College Boulevard in Fullerton at 3PM on September 21st. The event is sponsored by the League of Western Fortean Intermediatists (LOWFI) and is free, but donations for the tourguide will be accepted."

So, you may ask, why am I mentioning this here? Simple!

My new book, Science Fiction Secrets, includes a whole chapter on (A) Philip K. Dick's relationship with the FBI; (B) the Bureau's file on the man; and (C) letters from Dick to the G-Men - written in the 1970s - in which the famous author outlined his theories concerning a conspiracy of truly cosmic proportions that linked the world of science-fiction with ultra-right-wing groups...

Science Fiction Secrets - Available

My new book Science Fiction Secrets: From Government Files and the Paranormal, is now available.

If you're in the US, you can buy the book at Amazon right here;

if you're in the UK here's the relevant connection;

and if you're in Canada, here's the link you'll need.

Here's what the publisher - Anomalist Books - has to say:

ALL THE INGREDIENTS FOR A HIGH STRANGENESS STEW

Mix two parts science fiction with one part high-level government secrecy. Add a liberal helping of the paranormal. Then let Nick Redfern heat and serve. The result is far, far stranger than anything that you could ever begin to imagine.

SCIENCE FICTION SECRETS presents some mind-bending answers to a number of highly intriguing and thought-provoking questions, including:

Did the U.S. Government secretly assist Steven Spielberg in the production of his groundbreaking science fiction movies Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial?

Why were special agents of the FBI so deeply interested in the life, career, and activities of science fiction author Philip K. Dick (of Blade Runner fame)?

How did The X-Files spin-off series The Lone Gunmen anticipate months in advance the terrible tragedy of 9-11?

Why was the top brass of the U.S. Air Force so secretly interested in, and concerned by, the UFO-related tales of a relatively anonymous 1950s science fiction movie-maker who died in poverty in the early 1980s?

Did a nightmarish scenario presented in one of H.G. Wells' novels prompt Soviet Premier Josef Stalin to clandestinely embark upon a secret and diabolical experiment designed to create a super race of monstrous, half-human half-ape soldiers?

Has the military managed to successfully perfect human teleportation of the type that was most graphically and famously shown in Star Trek and The Fly?
